Oh, a cabin in the woods, with the whispery fall of snow outside and the crackle of a fire inside. It is a wonderful base for snuggling, skiing, heart-to-heart talks over hot chocolate, and snowshoeing on a bluebird day. So very Adirondacks.

The Whiteface Region has a variety of cabins and cottages that will match a couple's longing to be alone, or accommodate a lively group wanting to spend more time together. Cabin rentals range from small and remote to grand and convenient, or anything in between.

Riverfront bliss

For cozy comfort, visit Warner's Camp, a renovated cabin dating back to the 1800s. Overlooking the Ausable River, this spacious spot is perfect for fishing or simply enjoying the wilderness. With four bedrooms and two bathrooms, there is plenty of room for a family, or a couple looking for some solitude. Warner's is just a few miles from Whiteface and the amenities of Wilmington.

Cozy plus

If you would like your cabin in the woods to be not all that far into the woods, there's a way of relaxing into the privacy while still enjoying certain aspects of civilization. At one of the cabins at the North Pole Inn, you won't have far to go to reach their General Store and Gift Shop, which has groceries, snacks, and beverages, including an extraordinary selection of craft beers and a worldwide wine selection.

Accommodations are in their 100-acre woods, which has its own cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. They also feature a game room, wax room for skiers, and free WiFi.

There's also the option of a log home with four bedrooms, full kitchen, and a big stone fireplace. Bring in the groceries and relax into a backcountry resort experience.

For even more ease, choose a cabin at the Wilderness Inn II, which has onsite dining for dinner at their well-known restaurant beloved by visitors and locals alike. Their motto is "roughing it in style" and their location is along the scenic Ausable River.

Made for a crowd

If you want your own chunk of forest for a group of friends or an extended family gathering, the four bedroom, two bath, Windows on Whiteface is only a mile from Whiteface Mountain. The cabin is a renovated 1990 country home with lovely views. Bring the dog and explore the partly frozen brook. Wind down from a day of winter fun with the Jacuzzi jet tub.

Take it even easier by taking the free shuttle to the mountain. It runs four times a day.

Architecture fans will want appreciate the two bedroom, two bath, Wilmington Range Chalet along the Ausable River. The master bedroom has its own deck. This meticulously designed log home blends the rustic charm of the past with the ease and amenties of today.

There is even a housekeeper and onsite massage options, for even more luxury.

Split the difference

Enjoy a vacation resort complex at the Owaissa Club Townhomes. Choose a unit that accommodate as many as ten. Each unit is furnished by Dartbrook Rustic Goods. Grocery delivery service, housekeeping, and concierge service provide hotel amenities in a home-y atmosphere that is all about the beautiful setting, indoors and out.

Units also have a mud room and foyer providing an easy place to leave parkas and other equipment. For an indoor winter experience there are fireplaces, a large dining area, and a full kitchen with everything to make it just like home, including the spices you might find in your own kitchen.

This list is just a sampling of what is available. For any kind of winter cabin enthusiast, it doesn't get any better than the scenic, absolutely Adirondack, Whiteface Region.

Look at all the cabins and cottages to rent. Shake it up by going out for a meal. Revel in our winter recreation.
