Whiteface Mountain proudly claims the title of having the greatest vertical east of the Rockies, boasting an impressive descent of 3,166 feet. This mountain jewel features 96 trails, 12 high-speed lifts, and a variety of terrains catering to every skill level. Notably, the total vertical available is slightly adjusted to 3,430 feet when The Slides are open, providing an added dimension to the thrilling experience for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts.
The Olympic mountain features nearly 300 skiable acres with two terrain parks, a half pipe, and a beginner's mountain for first-timers. From groomers to glades, Whiteface has varied terrain and trails for all ages and abilities. At Whiteface Mountain, your lift ticket gives you access to three mountains for the price of one! The resort is made up of Whiteface Mountain, Little Whiteface, and Lookout Mountain. Lookout Mountain's Top Station elevation is 4,000 feet, servicing intermediate and expert terrain only. The views from Lookout are incredible, especially from the long, winding Wilmington Trail. Glades line both the left and right side of the Wilmington Trail, giving you the chance to dip into east coast woods skiing. Rand's Last Stand offers a nice straight fall line, not at all off camber, creating a truly unique glade experience for both skiers and riders.
Nestled between Lookout and Whiteface Mountain are The Slides. This expert-only terrain, open on the basis of specific conditions, gives highly experienced skiers a chance at backcountry-like terrain. Beacons, probes, shovels, and a riding buddy are often required for access.
Whiteface Mountain is very family friendly
Whiteface Mountain's legendary terrain and awesome ski culture is welcoming to skiers and snowboarders of all experience levels. There is even a separate park dedicated to kids, families, and those new to the sport! The Bear Den Learning Center is equipped with a selection of learning tools and features including a magic carpet for a fun uphill ride, large animal forms to ski around, and a chair lift. Occasionally, a mountain mascot may even appear for a meet and greet. Experienced instructors are also on hand for regular or one-time lessons. Easy access parking and a family lodge complete with food, snacks, and hot cocoa round out a perfect family day on the hill.
New in 2023, The Notch lift from Whiteface Mountain's Bear Den Learning Center over to the main mountain provides ski-over access to more runs and the main lodge. When beginner skiers and snowboarders feel ready, they can leave Bear Den and stir things up on the Mixing Bowl bunny hill or venture onto the Bear Chair Lift to practice turns on the Deer, Fox, and Wolf beginner trails.
With the Learn to Ski or Ride Passport program and the Kids Ski or Ride Free Passport program, kids in 3rd and 4th grade get a lift ticket, lesson, and equipment rental for a $27 processing fee at over 20 participating ski areas, including Whiteface.
On-mountain amenities
Whiteface Mountain is truly full-service. You'll undoubtedly work up an appetite chasing fresh powder on the slopes, and you can take your pick of food from a crazy number of options. There's the Base Camp Market or Legends for some hot soup, Al Forno Sicilian Pizza, the all-new Black Diamond Burrito Bar, Growler's Grill, Legacy Market, and Black Bear Market. And who could forget the Cloudspin Bar & Grill and the oh-so-aromatic Waffle Cabin! Many of Whiteface's onsite restaurants also host events throughout the season. Come catch a concert after you've taken your turns, start your après-ski experience with a refreshing beverage, or spectate a NYSEF race!
Don't have your own gear, or need yours tuned up? Whiteface Mountain has rental gear, and can repair and tune your equipment before you head out onto the slopes. Whiteface also has lockers to safely store your belongings while you're on the mountain. Need a warmer hat for those last few runs, or a souvenir to bring home? Stop in at Brookside Apparel or Flying Squirrel, where they've got all the ski and snowboard clothing, stickers, and gifts that you need.
