Wilmington is a winter wonderland, both on and off the mountain. We’re all familiar with the classic silhouette of the epic Whiteface Mountain, but some of the best memories are made after the skis come off. Turn left onto NY-Route 86 as you leave Whiteface to take advantage of all that the region has to offer.
Get ready for a winter of apres-ski festivities, family friendly adventures, uniquely Adirondack shopping, and delicious dining. This will be the winter getaway that your family needed.
After ski delights
Find your warm indulgences closer to the action.
Finish up your day lapping the chairlifts at Whiteface Mountain, with one of the region’s energetic bars and pubs. You don’t have to travel far from the mountain to warm your spirits with a post-adventure drink or snack at establishments like Rudy’s Scar Bar and Grill or R.F. McDougall’s Pub.
Each has their own look and feel, but all are welcoming to friends and family, new and old. No matter what apres-ski experience you’re looking for, you’ll find it close to the action in the Whiteface Region.
Family-friendly adventures
Skiing all morning wasn’t enough to tire the kids out? Not a problem. The Whiteface Region is full of family-friendly ways to fill your afternoon - even enough to satisfy that tireless childhood energy.
Visit Santa’s Workshop in the timeless holiday village of North Pole. Since 1949, the busy elves, live reindeer, and Santa himself have made this their home. Pay them a visit to get the whole family in the holiday spirit.
Had enough of being outdoors in the cold winter weather? See the sites without ever leaving the warm comfort of your car! The Jay Covered Bridge is the last of its kind in New York State, spanning 175 over the east branch of the legendary Ausable River. Turn left at the end of your ski day and take the family on a trip through Adirondack history with a scenic winter drive by some of the Adirondack’s most unique architecture.
Shop the night away
Fill your evenings shopping for authentically Adirondack gifts and gear. The Whiteface Region has everything to make your mountain getaway memorable.
Pick up the gear you need for a winter adventure at one of the numerous sporting goods and outdoor shops in the region. Winter hiking, ice fishing, fat tire biking, and more are just a step away. Looking for a new adventure? Consider hiring a local guide service to show you the ropes.

Stop by the Jay Craft Center to get yourself or a loved one a well crafted Adirondack mug or ceramic piece. We guarantee you’ll be coming back for more after reminiscing about your stay while sipping from your one-of-a-kind coffee mug.
If pottery and ceramics got you excited, then you’ll love the rest of the region’s art galleries and music venues. Check them out, and see how these snow-capped peaks, frozen lakes, and rivers inspired local artists.
