Sugar House Creamery is an adorable farmstead creamery nestled in the Adirondacks. Their Brown Swiss Cows are getting ready to be released into the pasture after a long winter at this year's Green Grass Getdown, but don't think that's the only reason you should be visiting Sugar House Creamery.
1. The cheese
Oh my gosh. The cheese is so, so, so good. The Dutch Knuckle, Little Dickens, and Poundcake — I’ve had them all, and I love them all. And there’s nothing better than local, handcrafted cheese. If you need advice on what to pair the cheeses with, Sugar House Creamery has got you covered!
2. The Farm Store
The farm store is open Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It's stocked with farmstead cheeses, raw milk from their Brown Swiss Cows, and other local meats, breads, vegetables, eggs, and more from other local farms and makers that Sugar House Creamery collaborates with. You’ll definitely find something you need to take home with you!
3. You can stay there
That’s right! There are two lodging options at Sugar House Creamery. Rest your head in the Carriage Barn, or the Guest Quarters. Make a weekend out of it and explore the rest of the region, then retreat back to your cozy quarters and enjoy the view and tranquility. Both options are cozy, quaint, and adorable.
4. To visit the cows
I had to include the cows because they're so cute! Sugar House Creamery has a dozen Brown Swiss Cows, which are the key players in the production of the delicious milk and cheeses that Sugar House Creamery puts out.
5. Family fun events
The Green Grass Getdown
If you haven’t been to the Green Grass Getdown yet, you need to go this year. The Brown Swiss Cows finally get released into their pasture after a long winter — and boy, do they celebrate. The event will also have a small farmers market, live music, and delicious food.
The Snowy Grocery
The Snowy Grocery is a fall, winter, and spring farmer's market held at Sugar House Creamery in collaboration with Mace Chasm Farm, Crown Point Bakery, Juniper Hill Farm, Fledgling Crow Vegetables, Topo Coffee, and more! You can find lots of local goodies there every Sunday from mid-October through May.
The Essex County Cheese Tour
A tour…of cheese. Need I say more? The Essex County Cheese Tour will be October 7 this year. Take a scenic drive through the Adirondacks to Sugar House Creamery, North County Creamery, and Asgaard Farm. Enjoy delicious cheeses, visit the farmers and farm animals, and take in the stunning views.
