Apres Anyone?
What do you enjoy most about your day hitting the slopes? Is it the rush you get flying down the mountain? Is it the feeling of accomplishment for challenging yourself? Or maybe you don’t hit the slopes at all and are looking for a great aprés scene? Whatever it is that pumps you up, rest assured you're already in the perfect aprés spot. You can find the best barstool to relax in after an exciting day at Whiteface Mountain.
Recently, I was in Wilmington, NY enjoying an afternoon at Whiteface Mountain. What better a place to spend a winter afternoon than at the Cloudspin Lounge. The lounge is extremely welcoming, people are laughing and having a good time. I only knew one person when I arrived but after taking off our coats and ordering drinks, soon we were chatting it up and hanging-out, enjoying ourselves with a group of locals, tourists and new friends.
Mix-ology
The bartenders definitely love their job, they offer peppered vodka in your Bloody Mary instead of plain vodka; you can tell they want to be a part of the atmosphere. They are young, smiling, energetic, and fun. There are daily drink specials on a board near the bar where they create specialty cocktails! Be sure to check the board when you venture into the lounge. There are several different draft beers, mixed drinks, and your typical bar-fare to choose from.
Entertainment
To set the scene for you, there was music rockin' in the background, people everywhere; playing pool or sitting around having conversations, enjoying the libations after a fun day. The massive windows allow for a great view of people still making turns on the mountain. There is also an outdoor deck to enjoy during warmer weather and catch a few rays to even out your google tan. Plan for live music Saturday's inside the lounge for mountain-goers to enjoy. This music series is called “Rock the Face”. Also on the weekends or holidays, you might catch the “Bud Light Girls” doing special drink promotions. Any day of the week the scene offers a very festive and fun time.
Catch a Ride
After having fun rubbing elbows with the locals and “sampling” a Bloody Marys, I took the FREE shuttle back to Wilmington. Yes, a safe free ride is available to and from the mountain for locals and visitors to use headed both to Wimington and Lake Placid. I would allow yourself some extra time when taking the shuttle and maybe take a moment to familiarize yourself with the route.
