Presented by the Jay Entertainment & Music Society
The SUNY Plattsburgh Gospel Choir is a SATB chorus that performs music primarily from the Africa American tradition.
Its members develop strong “rote learning” skills regardless of initial ability. Vocal scores are also incorporated especially on the more sacred musical pieces. Members learn choreographed movements while singing to a full spectrum of gospel styles and genres such as traditional, contemporary, spirituals and urban. The SUNY Plattsburgh Gospel Choir is open to students, faculty, staff and community. Musicians from all backgrounds are strongly encouraged to participate. PSGC actively performs on campus, in the community, and throughout the region averaging 10-15 appearances each year during the fall, spring and summer seasons. The choir sings at a variety of settings including colleges, campus events, K-12 schools, churches, memorial services, weddings and other community events. Locally, the gospel choir routinely performs at commencements, naturalization ceremonies, award programs as well as for its annual Soulful Christmas, GospelFEST, Juneteenth Celebrations and its Common Roots concerts.
