About

The famous Jay Covered Bridge is on this route, with the fabulous Jay Rocks as a backdrop. The winding country roads between Upper Jay and Jay offer a lovely mix of rugged mountains, river views, and sweeping meadows. Narrow shoulders, but low traffic, with alternating rolling hills to keep the climbs balanced with the downhill cruises.

Cycling

Route 9N between Upper Jay and Jay is flat, along the river, and with broad shoulders, measuring 3.5 miles one way. It's also great for rollerblading! Add mileage by choosing smaller routes across the river.

Scenic Drives

Leave Upper Jay going North on Route 9N to keep the Ausable River on the side of the ride, with plenty of pulloffs and picnic tables to enjoy the scenery. Once in Jay, take John Fountain Rd to the covered bridge, then continue along County Highway 22 for the Glen Road/Mill Hill Road option; it is 4.1 miles long, and is a "higher country" trip.

Take the right onto Valley Road (County Highway 58) for 3.5 miles until making the right onto Trumbulls Rd, which takes you back to Route 9N, .1 mile before another right takes you back to Upper Jay to the North.
